Q: Why was managed parking introduced to Sunshine Plaza’s car park?
A: Sunshine Plaza is committed to providing the best customer experience to its shoppers. Managed parking enhances the parking experience by improving the ease and time required to find a car space.
Q: What changes have been made to the Sunshine Plaza car park?
A: Sunshine Plaza has introduced a managed parking system based on licence plate recognition, allowing customers to enter and exit the centre without the need of a ticket.
The managed parking system also includes parking guidance, featuring:
- Sensors to detect vehicles within each space.
- Red, green and blue° LED space indicators in multi-level car parks.
- Electronic display boards to indicate the direction and quantity of available parking spaces.
- Better signage to guide customers.
In addition, the centre is adding over 1400 car spaces as part of the $400 million redevelopment, taking the total number of car spaces at Sunshine Plaza to nearly 5,000.
Q: How does the ticketless managed parking system work?
A: It is a timed, ticketless parking system based on licence plate recognition. On entry, a camera will recognise vehicle rego numbers. Customers won’t be required to stop as no ticket will be issued.
Customers who park in the multi-level car parks can locate available car spaces using the red, green and blue° LED light system overhead.
Customers who park in the outdoor car parks can locate available car space using the electronic sign boards located at the various entries.
Q: Will there be a period of free* parking available?
A: Parking is FREE* for customers who:
- Park for 3 hours or less
- Spend over $150* per visit and validate their receipt(s) with Customer Service
- Enter the Centre after 6pm
- Have an authorised disabled parking permit*
In addition, cinema visitors receive a fourth hour of free* parking when they scan their cinema ticket at any of the pay stations.
Q: Will customers have to pay for parking?
A: The first 3 hours of parking is free*. Customers who have been at the centre for less than three hours will not be required to pay for their parking and can proceed directly to the exit. Upon exit, the camera will recognise the customer’s rego and the boom gate will automatically open.
Customers who have stayed more than three hours in the centre (and aren’t eligible to claim additional free* parking) will incur a fee. Payment can be made in three easy ways for a seamless exit:
- Enter their rego number and pay at any pay station located within the centre;
- Register their details at parking.sunshineplaza.com and exit the car park as normal. The parking fee will be automatically charged to their credit or debit card;
- Insert credit or debit card or utilise pay wave upon exiting.
Q: Why should customers register online?
A: Customers are encouraged to register their vehicle rego number and credit or debit card details at parking.sunshineplaza.com.
Once registered, if customers choose to stay longer than three hours there will be no need to visit a pay station as the fee will be automatically charged to their registered account credit or debit card on exit.

Q. How do I register?
A: 24 hours before visiting the centre, register your details once at parking.sunshineplaza.com. On your next visit, proceed directly to the exit and the parking fee will be automatically charged to your registered credit or debit card.
Q: Will my personal details be kept secure?
Q: How do cinema visitors validate their parking?
A: Cinema visitors can enjoy an extra hour of free* parking by validating their cinema ticket at any pay station using the barcode located on the cinema ticket. Upon exit, the camera will recognise the customer’s vehicle rego number and the boom gate will automatically open.
Normal rates apply after 4 hours.
Q. How much do I need to spend to receive up to 8 hours of free* parking?
A: Customers need to spend $150 or more at Sunshine Plaza in any one visit to receive up to 8 hours free* parking on that same day. Receipt(s) from multiple stores totalling $150 or more can be used.
Q. How do I redeem the 8 hours free* parking?
A: Customers who have spent more than $150 or more at participating retailers in any one visit can validate their parking at the Customer Service Centre to receive up to 8 hours free* parking on that same day. Once validated, the camera will recognise the customer’s rego number and the boom gate will automatically open upon exit.
The 8 hours of free* parking must be used in one single visit on the day that the customer spends $150 or more at Sunshine Plaza. If customers exit the car park after redeeming their 8 allowable maximum hours of free* parking and return to the car park that same day, they will only be eligible for the standard 3 hours of free* parking or 4 hours of free* parking with the purchase of a cinema ticket.
Q. How does the parking system recognise that I have received up to 8 hours free* parking when I exit?
A: Customers who present their receipts totalling $150 or more at the Customer Service Centre will be provided with a printed voucher to scan and validate their 8 hours free* parking at any pay station when leaving the centre.
Q. Can I use the receipts on more than one occasion?
A: Receipt(s) totalling $150 or more can only be used once to redeem up to 8 hours free* parking on that same day, in any one day.
Q: I have a disabled parking permit, will rates apply?
A: Customers with an authorised disabled parking permit will be able to park free* all day if their permit and licence plate details are registered at the Customer Service Centre located near Police Beat.
Q. Can shopping centre staff take advantage of the parking promotions?
A: Retailers and shopping centre staff are not eligible for parking promotions.
Q: What happens if customers leave the centre and come back later?
A: Customers are entitled to 3 hours free* parking on first entry into the car park. When returning to the car park in the same day, an additional 3 hours free* parking will be available if your time of car park entry is more than 30 minutes after exiting.
Q: What are the fees?
A: Our research informs us of how long our customers spend in the Centre on average and predicts parking will remain free for more than 90% of our shoppers. The new system, Smart Park, will offer 3 hours of free* parking. Thereafter, rates will be comparable to the industry average, per below.

Q: How do motorcycle riders pay?
A: Motorcycle riders can park for free* in a designated motorcycle bay only. Customers who ride a motorcycle are encouraged to contact the Customer Service Centre to register their motorcycle.
Q: If I don’t want to pay, where can I park?
A: We encourage customers to take advantage of free* parking for the first 3 hours. The Centre is also adjacent to the Maroochydore bus interchange, located in front of Rebel Sport.
Q: Will I be charged for the time it takes me to park my car?
A: The new managed parking system will make parking quicker and easier. The 3 hours free* parking limit will begin at the time vehicles enter the car park.
Q: Will there be staff to help?
A: Customers when requiring assistance can contact car park staff by pressing the call button at any exit or pay station machine.
Q: Will the managed parking system have an impact on parking in the streets surrounding the shopping centre?
A: We anticipate the new controlled parking system will make it easier for people to park within the Sunshine Plaza car park. Street parking is managed by the Sunshine Coast Council who currently manage any resident or local business concerns regarding vehicles parked inappropriately in their areas.
Q: What consultation has taken place?
A: Sunshine Plaza has been reviewing customer recommendations and feedback for some time now, especially concerns about the availability of car spaces during busy shopping periods. We value the feedback and recommendations of our customers, which is why we are introducing managed parking to ensure that our car parks are available to genuine Sunshine Plaza customers.
Q: Has Council approved the proposed controlled parking system?
A: Council is not required to approve the process as it is on private land and falls under the self-assessable criteria under the Sunshine Coast Council planning regime.
Q: Who should I contact if I receive a parking fee and wish to dispute it?
A: If you wish to dispute a parking fee, please initially contact Point Parking via sun[email protected].
